Redbird Resolutions
By Karan Eschweiler
1. I will continue to be pleasant to the Nacho Nazi who works at the stadium. She is working hard and once upon a time, someone probably told her to be very careful how much of the “good stuff” she piled on a nacho supreme.
2. I will try my very best not to block anyone’s view during the Cardinal Cap Dance.
3. I will try not to make the usher from my section laugh uncontrollably at my girlfriends and me when we do a “Ladies Game”. It is important that he remain under control so that he can do his job in a responsible manner. Being entertained by 4 middle-aged women is certainly not in the job description. It is often difficult for us to behave when we get away from the 4 husbands and 10 kids we have among us.
4, I will continue to stay in touch with the very nice people we sit by at several games. I’ve exchanged email with several of the people we’ve met this season. Cardinal fans are the best.
5. I will try my best to make sure my husband and I spread out our tickets among many friends. Funny how when the Cards are hot, everyone without tickets wants to be my friend.
6. I will do my very best to get my dad to a game this year. I know he has a great video set-up and air-conditioning and cheaper concessions, but the atmosphere cannot be duplicated! He introduced me to Cardinal Baseball and I’ll repay him by dragging him out of his fancy home to sit in a hard plastic seat whether he wants to or not!
7. When I retire (in 15 years, but who’s counting?) I am signing up for the Cardinals Cruise if there still is such a thing.
8. Again when I retire, I will attend spring training.
9. I will spend my anniversary weekend at Busch Stadium and a downtown hotel.
10. I will try really hard not to refer to our new shortstop as “Little Dude”. I don’t particularly like to be called “Amazon Chick”.
11. I will faithfully read The Birdhouse.
12. I will not gain any weight during the baseball season and blame it on Bud Light, Nacho Supremes, and shaky pitching.
13. I will try to quit daydreaming quite so much about Scott Rolen, Jim Edmonds, Albert Pujols, and Larry Walker.
14. I will try my best not to visit the Cardinal Dugout Store before or after every game. My husband will be so proud.
15. I will quit signing up for Cardinal MasterCards just to get the free promotional gift.
16. I will remember to bring sunblock in my purse for the poor, old, pale man who always seems to be sitting in front of me turning a lovely shade of red during a hot July day game.
17. I will never make fun of men standing in line to use the restroom. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, I will keep my happiness to myself and maybe just smirk as I walk by.
18. I will take in every sight and sound I can during the last season at this stadium. I will take pictures to document the many memories I will always have from my childhood, as a teenager, and now as an adult in this Busch Stadium. I promise to pass these stories on to my daughters.
19. I will not pick games to take my daughters to based solely on the give-away and I will not run, push or in anyway be rude to assure myself of a Cardinal bobblehead. (Well, maybe I’ll run a little.)
20. I will be a Cardinal fan with all my heart. As a true member of Cardinal Nation, I will not waver in my commitment to the Redbirds and if I see a Cubs fan I will try my best to keep my comments to myself.
