A preliminary Cards deal for catcher Einar Diaz for $600,000 is in place, says the AP. No formal announcement yet, though.
Fassero
Ex-Cards lefty Jeff Fassero (2002-03) has agreed to a minor league deal with the Giants, says the AP. The 42-year-old received a spring training invite from his ninth team.
Clayton
Ex-Cards shortstop Royce Clayton (1996-98) agreed to a contract with Arizona for $1.35 million for one year.
Tavarez
MLB.com quotes Dr. George Paletta, team physician, who says that pitcher Julian Tavarez had his broken, non-pitching hand placed in a cast after the World Series. However, the cast and splint have been taken off and Tavarez is rehabbing. Paletta said Tavarez is expected to be “100%” ready for spring training.
